As a wedding photographer who've been working on the industry for the last six years and a local I have some thoughts. I've put together this guide to help you pin point which location fits your vision best.

Venue Guide

San Juan by and large the most reconozible part of Puerto Rico, with old San Juan being its crown jewel. Rich in history and architerure its no surprise many puertoricans and travelers choose to have their wedding in this part of the island. It's also the one with most activies per square, meaning you can plan your rehersal dinner, your wedding, your ceremony and even your after party all within a relative close distance. From luxurious hotels, to historic landscapes San Juan has it all. 

San Juan Wedding Venues

Situated in the heart of Old San Juan, Hotel El Convento is a luxury hotel filled with history. A former convent that has been beautifully restored, it is located within walking distance of the Catedral de San Juan and the famous Plaza de la Rogativa. Both locations are renowned ceremony sites and often incorporate the beloved Puerto Rican tradition of pleneros accompanying the couple as they exit the ceremony on their way to the hotel or reception area. With a capacity of approximately 50–220 guests, it is an excellent venue for medium to large weddings.

Hotel El Convento

Situated in the heart of Old San Juan, Hotel El Convento is a luxury hotel filled with history. Casa de España

One of the most recognizable venues in Old San Juan, Casa de España retains the charm and aesthetic of the Spanish heritage that is emblematic of Puerto Rico. The site can serve as both a ceremony and reception space. Some couples choose to have their ceremony in one of the churches in Old San Juan and then host their reception at Casa de España. Both options are equally feasible due to its close proximity to the historic district.

Typical capacity is up to around 200 guests. With its emblematic courtyard, rooftop views of the city, and a ballroom that feels truly fit for royalty, Casa de España offers a timeless and elegant setting for a wedding celebration.

Antiguo Casino

Located just outside the historic walls of Old San Juan, Antiguo Casino de Puerto Rico is one of the island’s most iconic wedding venues. Built in 1917 and inspired by French Beaux-Arts architecture, the venue features grand marble staircases, ornate chandeliers, and elegant ballrooms that evoke the feeling of a European palace. The property offers multiple spaces for ceremonies, cocktail hours, and receptions, allowing events to flow seamlessly throughout the building. With a capacity of up to around 300 guests, Antiguo Casino is particularly well suited for large, formal weddings looking for a classic and luxurious atmosphere. Considered by many vendors and locals to be one of the top luxury venues of the island, this combined with a ceremony at the nearby Castillo San Cristóbal makes for one of the most emblematic and richly cultural Puerto Rican weddings.

Hotel Vanderbilt

Situated along the oceanfront in the vibrant Condado district of San Juan, Condado Vanderbilt Hotel is a historic luxury hotel and one of Puerto Rico’s most sought‑after wedding destinations. Originally opened in 1919 and recently restored to blend old‑world Spanish Revival grandeur with modern elegance, the Vanderbilt offers couples a range of picturesque wedding options with dramatic Atlantic views and refined architecture.  

Weddings here can range from intimate celebrations of 20 guests in spaces like Salón Azul or Luchetti Patio to grand receptions of up to around 500 guests in the expansive Patio del Fauno Ballroom, with several oceanfront verandas and elegant ballrooms available for ceremonies and receptions. The hotel’s combination of luxury accommodations, ocean views, and world‑class service makes it especially popular for destination weddings where guests can stay, celebrate, and enjoy the beach and resort amenities all in one place.
